Why We Do It
God calls us to a life of love that is not only spoken but lived out through genuine care for others. Scripture reminds us in Proverbs 19:17 that "whoever is kind to the poor lends to the Lord, and he will reward them for what they have done." When we open our hands to those in need, we are not just helping people—we are giving back to God Himself, who identifies closely with the poor and the vulnerable.
Jesus made this truth even clearer when He described the final judgment, saying, "For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me… Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me" (Matthew 25:35-36, 40). In serving others, we are in fact serving Christ Himself. This is the heart of God’s love—an active, compassionate love that moves beyond words into action.
As James 2:15-16 challenges us, "Suppose a brother or a sister is without clothes and daily food. If one of you says to them, ‘Go in peace; keep warm and well fed,’ but does nothing about their physical needs, what good is it?" Our faith finds its proof not in empty sayings, but in generous deeds. Every time we sacrifice, share, or care, we are helping to build God’s kingdom here on earth—a living testimony that His love is real, present, and at work through His people.
